Saturday was the teton dam marathon!
A little background info about the race:
On June 5, 1976, the collapse of the Teton River Dam unleashed a savage flood which caused $500 million in damage, took eleven lives, and made thousands homeless in Wilford, Sugar City, Rexburg, Salem, Hibbard, Firth, Blackfoot, and Roberts.
This tragedy was turned into triumph by the victims’ own faith and courage and by an outpouring of aid by many volunteers from Idaho and nearby states. For this reason over a thousand runners flood the streets to take on their own personal challenge of running a race.
About two weeks ago Matt and I signed up, he did the 10K and i just did the fun run. We wished we could have thought about it earlier and trained more but we are so glad that we just did it!
Here's Matt about to cross the finish line. It's a terrible picture. I was all ready for him, when he went by i was trying so hard to get his attention i forgot to take a good picture, and besides he was so fast! He did so good! Race results aren't up yet, but i'll let you know how he did later. Can you believe he ran the whole thing without stopping!! Thats 6 miles, and he hardly trained at all! He met someone on the race whose husband was doing the marathon, and is doing a marathon in every state! Idaho was #19, what a crazy cool goal for life!
It was so funny to see our little community of rexburg play on the word dam so much
Here i am about to cross the finish line with my running partner Linc. (thanks katie so much for letting me borrow your stroller!!) It was pretty ridiculous how stoked i was to run one mile. Pretty much it was me and a bunch of kids, most of which blew right past me but i am so proud of myself for actually doing it! I sure would like to do a 5k this summer! (and holy smokes look at my legs!)
What a family fun activity!

During the awards ceremony they threw out racing shirts and Matt caught one for me! He's wearing the shirt he got for the race and the blue one is the one he snagged, it says 'the best dam marathon of the year' except dam has censored written over it. silly! It was such a great day, the weather was perfect and it started pouring AFTER all the races were over!
awesome. Your legs do look skinny!
ReplyDeleteThat is so fun. I didn't know there was a one mile! That's about all I would be able to do. That would be such a fun family activity! Way to go!
